WELS registration is a water energy efficiency certification initiated by the Australian government in order to reasonably protect water resources and encourage people to buy water-saving products. WELS, which stands for Australian Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme, has been mandatory for WELS certification since 1 July 2006. All new products, manufactured or imported into Australia on 1 July 2006, must be registered and labelled with the WELS label in accordance with the standards set out in the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005 before being sold. WELS Energy Efficiency Labels have a specific format that specifies font, color, and style. WELS certification is valid for one year, with an annual fee for renewal each year. WELS certification test standard is AS/NZS 6400, the products need to apply for Watermark certification before applying for WLES certification.
Currently, the following products are required for WELS certification:
- the flower is aspersed
- the toilet
- the faucet
- the urinal

- a dishwasher
